Young People, Education and Halesworth Museum
Of particular interest to adults and children might be the Halesworth Town Trail which would provide an interesting and free holiday activity. As well as the adult version there is one for younger people where they adopt the role of detective to discover aspects of the town for themselves, searching out clues to the past. In the museum are backpacks to support this which contain a list of activities relating to the pamphlet and everything needed for three people to complete them. Additional copies of both trails can be found in a number of outlets in the town but the backpacks must be collected from the museum during opening times. In busy periods you may want to phone ahead and reserve a pack to avoid disappointment on arrival. As there are a number of these backpacks we are able to supply a groups of young people such as Beavers, Scouts, Brownies and Guides though some advanced notice would be helpful.
If the Town Trail is not for you, but you would like to carry out some research relating to Halesworth and the surrounding villages, we have a wealth of archive material that might interest you and our curator, Mike Fordham, is happy to provide support and advice. There is little he doesn’t know about the history of the town and surrounding villages.
This is an exciting time for the museum as we plan to provide a study room with research facilities and more activities for children as soon as funds permit. If you have any ideas of what we could incorporate into our plans we would be delighted to hear your suggestions.
