Museum opening times

Our winter closure will be longer than normal

As the year draws to a close, the Museum is preparing for its winter closure.  This year, however, the closure will be over a longer period.  For some time now there has been a problem caused by damp in the railway buildings which house Halesworth and District Museum.  Remedial work to address this problem in planned to take place shortly.  Because of this, the Museum main display area and study room will be closed to the public from 11 November 2017 to the end of March 2018.

The work of the Museum for our community will be maintained over this period.   We will be publishing new Museum material on our website and will continue to support the public with family research and history enquiries.  We will also be contributing items on local history to the Community News.   During this time you can contact the Museum by email at or by telephone contact with the Chair Pauline Wilcock on 01986 873557 or Treasurer Brian Howard on 07715 679711.

To hear more about our plans over this period, and perhaps to catch up on our display regarding the Patrick Stead Hospital if you missed it during the recent Heritage Open Days, you are warmly invited to attend our Annual Public Meeting on 23 November at 7:00 at the United Reformed Church.

However, if you want to visit the Museum during this time, do email us at, and, as long as we have a volunteer available, you will be able to visit us.

After April we will be back to normal:

Tuesday to Saturday 10.00 am to 12.30 pm.
Wednesday afternoon 2 pm to 4 pm
Group visits are welcomed but must be pre-arranged.

There is easy access for the disabled.
