Charles Thomas Gilbert

 

Born:  Holton, Suffolk, 1899

Died:  France and Flanders, 27th August 1918.  Killed in action.

Buried in Mory Abbey Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France alongside many other Grenadier Guardsmen killed on the same day

Son of Thomas Isaac and Rebecca Linnie Gilbert of White House Farm, Totherton , Wangford.  Brother of Herbert who survived the war.

Guardsman, 2nd Battalion the Grenadier Guards, having enlisted in Lowestoft.  Regimental number 30399.

In loving memory of Guardsman Charles T. Gilbert, who was killed in action on August 27th 1918.

To clasp his hand in a better land, never to part again

From his sorrowing mother, father, sisters and brothers.

On May 24th 1919, Empire Day, his former school, John Leman in Beccles, laid a tablet in his honour.
