WANTED: SPORT ON FILM
Halesworth and district have been enormously supportive in helping the Museum bring together photos, documents, trophies and memorabilia for the exhibition on Halesworth’s Sporting Past and Present, due to open in late July. There will be plenty of pictures and objects to tell the fascinating history of sport in the area – football, bowls, hockey, swimming and much more; sport in Halesworth schools and a whole panel of Halesworth’s Sporting Heroes.
But we still have gaps. In particular, has anyone any old cine film or video of local sporting events which we could use as part of a continuous screening? Does anyone have anything to do with the Cricket Club or the Tennis Club in Halesworth or any of the sporting clubs in the surrounding villages. If your sport is missed out or if you know of someone who belongs among the heroes , just get in touch – and soon! We want to be as wide-reaching as possible. Please contact Vic Gray if you can help.
Meanwhile work is well advanced on our opening exhibition at the Museum. ‘Halesworth’s Royal Celebrations: 200 Years of Coronations and Jubilees’ has some fascinating stories to tell of how the town has celebrated on previous royal occasions. It opens on 1 May when the Museum resumes its summer opening hours of Tuesday to Saturday, 10.00-12.30. If you’d like a sneak preview, make a date to come along to the Museum Friends Evening on 18 April. Anyone with an interest in the history of the area is welcome. Just turn up at the Station between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. and be among the first to see the new display. The Museum will also be open that afternoon from 2p.m.
